Moranduzzo to the Soliti Ignoti on Rai1: the factory of Italian Christmas in prime time
On December 13, 2019, the day of Santa Lucia, Moranduzzo is the mysterious identity of the Christmas episode of Soliti Ignoti. The story of how Italy’s oldest Christmas decoration factory arrived in the living room of Italians.
There is a kind of recognition that cannot be bought or planned for: being chosen by Italian public television as the mystery identity for the Christmas episode of prime time’s most-watched program. On Dec. 13, 2019, Moranduzzo was there-in front of millions of Italians-with photographs of the factory and objects from a 70-year history.
The Usual Unknowns: the program

Bruno – one of Moranduzzo’s iconic subjects, featured in the Christmas episode of the Soliti Ignoti on Dec. 13, 2019.
Soliti Ignoti – Il Ritorno is the Rai1 game-show hosted by Amadeus and produced by Endemol Shine Italy. The format is simple in mechanics: a contestant must guess the work, passion or business of eight mystery identities, using three clues for each. Simple in mechanics, complex in execution-because each “mystery identity” must have a story rich and original enough to withstand three clues without being recognized.
December 13, 2019 is the day of Santa Lucia. In many Italian families, especially in the north, it is the date when the first gift is brought to children-almost an early Christmas. The Christmas episode of Soliti Ignoti was that night, in prime time on Rai1.
Moranduzzo’s presence: three clues and a story
Moranduzzo appears as one of eight mystery identities. Clues devoted to the company concern the business-the Christmas decoration factory since 1946-and the family’s hobbies. The photographs shown in the studio are those of the company in action: the production, the products, the history.
The “three clues” format is exactly the kind of storytelling Moranduzzo’s story is built for: each clue reveals one level of the story without revealing all. The Florentine factory. Christmas. The eighty years of history. Three clues that are never enough to tell the whole story – but intriguing enough to make people seek further information.

Moranduzzo’s media presence: a decades-long journey
The Soliti Ignoti episode is not an isolated incident-it is part of a media presence that Moranduzzo has been building since 1974, when the first documented RAI campaigns began. Forty-five years of Italian television, from Dario Moranduzzo in the 1980s to the third generation today.
First documented RAI campaigns (the 12th cycle in 1986 certifies at least 12 years of television presence).
Peak of media presence: RAI + Fininvest, 11 simultaneous newspapers, two TV movies. Budget in excess of 600 million liras.
12th documented RAI cycle: 113.7 million liras of advertising space. Campaign in Rai1, Rai2, Famiglia Cristiana and 9 other newspapers.
Television film “Christmas Decorations” (Diaframma Cinematelevisione, Calenzano). Produced for RAI distribution.

RDS 100% Greatest Hits – episode dedicated “100% Made in Italy.” National radio station, 8 million weekly listeners.
I hate Christmas on Netflix – Landi figurines in the family crib, no commercial deal.
The 2018 commercial and Letizia Toni: the detail no one knew
Among Moranduzzo’s television appearances is one that deserves a chapter of its own. In 2018, RAI’s “No Christmas Without” advertising campaign featured a young Pistoiese actress at the beginning of her career: Letizia Toni. The commercial can still be seen today on the Moranduzzo Official YouTube channel.
In 2024, six years later, Letizia Toni becomes the face of the Gianna Nannini biopic “Sei nell’anima” – produced by Indiana Production and distributed by Netflix starting May 2, 2024. She was chosen from two thousand applicants after three auditions for vocal, physical and character adherence to the original. Critics unanimously report her as the film’s revelation.
Letizia Toni’s first documented public appearance-before Gianna Nannini, before Netflix-is the 2018 Moranduzzo commercial. It is a detail that adds an extra layer to the company’s television history: not only present on TV, but present in the zero moment of a career that would reach Netflix.
